Bognor Regis visited Marburg in October 2011 On Thursday evening we had our meet and greet at A country hotel in Marburg and enjoyed a splendid meal in superb surroundings On Friday we visited the town hall where the Mayor of Marburg addressed the many people that turned out to celebrate Marburg Lion's 50th Anniversary. We had a lovely finger buffet and took time with our hosts to enjoy the beautiful hall. Later that day we came back to a converted part of a church where a rosette chef showed us all great dishes and how to cook them. Of course we were able to sample them all and ended up having a great feast, followed by wine brought in from a Slavenia lions club for the special occasion. Saturday we were taken to see Terracotta China Warriors out in ***. A very interesting tour and we all enjoyed this immensely. And yes we were then taken to a pretty restaurant in a nearby town and yet again sampled beautiful food. After all this we west back to our hosts for a quick change so that we could get back to Marburg for a Big Band Benefit Concert. The whole place rocked with swinging music from young students who filled the hall with rhythm and excitement. Wow what a day. Sunday morning was time to say goodbye at newly furbished **where we were to have brunch. I have never seen so much variety and so much food to be consumed. This has been a truly fantastic twinning and a great big thank you to our wonderful Marburg hosts.
*********************************************** OUR TWINNING SILVER ANNIVERSARY 2006 saw the 25th Anniversary of our twinning with the Lions Club of Marburg.
On Thursday 20th July 2006 a party of Lions from Marburg and their ladies arrived for our twinning weekend. To add to the occasion they brought with them three (lady) members of their new daughter Lions Club of Marburg (Schlossberg); the new Lions had heard so much about twinning that they wanted to see for themselves how much fun there is to be had. The initial meeting was at the Oaks Restaurant at Walberton and on a lovely sunny evening we had a wonderful meal. Old friendships were renewed and new ones started to form. The evening set the tone for what was to prove a truly memorable weekend. On Friday we took a coach to Windsor where we embarked on a three hour cruise up the Thames and enjoyed a buffet lunch on board. The weather was glorious, sunny and hot - perhaps too hot. After lunch we took a stroll up Eton High Street and were granted a special one hour conducted tour of the College. We then took a further stroll to a boarders' house where we were treated to a right royal afternoon tea in the lovely gardens, provided by Mrs Davies, the Housemaster's wife. She even produced a special cake to mark our 25th anniversary. The lovely Mrs Davies would make any teenage boy wish to be a boarder at her husband's house! After a bit of a struggle our gallant coach driver managed to get us on the bus and we arrived back in Bognor tired but very happy.
For Saturday our guests and their hosts went on individual forays around various interesting places in the neighbourhood and in the evening Lion President Andy Macdonald and his lady, Jane, entertained all the visitors and their guests to a reception at their house, which was followed by hosts and guest descending on local restaurants in high humour. Sunday again saw our visitors being taken to local attractions and in the evening we all gathered at the Rowland Rank Centre for a barbecue, farewell, supper. The Bognor Lions made a presentation of an engraved glass bowl to Past President Christian Ritter to commemorate the anniversary and he presented Lion President Andy with a framed painting of Marburg. Past President Suzanne Ruck, of the Marburg Schlossberg Club, said how much she and her fellow Lions from that club had enjoyed their visit and they now fully understood why twinning was so popular with the members of their parent club - she promised to try to persuade the members of her club to try to twin with an English club!
Early on Monday morning our guests set off for home, but perhaps wisely after the hectic and happy weekend, planning to stop on the way for a night in Bruges. We had been blessed with wonderful weather throughout the weekend and our 25th truly was a Twinning visit to remember. ******
